Kantara is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language action thriller film that is directed and written by Rishab Shetty and produced by Vijay Kiragandur, under the label of Hombale Films.

The story of this movie is based on Panjuri, Daiva/ Bhoota Kola (an animist form of spirit worshipped by the local peoples) who guards the forest land for the local tribes.

The film stars Rishab Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, and Kishore in the lead role.

Kantara movie has many actors who impress the audience with their comic timing and expressions. All the casting of the movie was just on point and truly suited for their particular role.

In the lead, Rishab Shetty as Kaadubettu Shiva and Shiva’s father. His acting in the first half was decent enough to hold the audience to their seat but in last half hour, he is just phenomenal. If he gets performance of the year award, then there will be no surprise for the audience.
Sapthami Gowda as Leela did justice to their role. Kishore as Muralidhar (a Deputy Range Forest Officer (D.R.F.O) officer). He is good as an officer and his acting was also nice, in some scenes he is looking like the Hollywood actor Rock.

Apart from them all the actors also did their best and made this film more interesting and because of their comic timing, it will not bore you.
The other actors in the film are Achyuth Kumar as Devendra Suttooru, Pramod Shetty as Sudhakara, Shanil Guru as Bulla, Prakash Thuminad as Raampa, Manasi Sudhir as Kamala (Shiva’s mother), Naveen D Padil as Lawyer, Swaraj Shetty as Guruva (Shiva’s cousin brother), Deepak Rai Panaaje as Sundara, Pradeep Shetty as Mohana, Rakshith Ramachandra Shetty as Devendra’s Henchman, Chandrakala Rao as Sheela (Sundara’s Wife) Pushparaj Bollara as Garnall Abbu, Raghu Pandeshwar as Raghu (Forest Officer).

In Cameo appearances, we will see Shine Shetty as Devendra’s father, Vinay Biddappa as the King, and Pragathi Rishab Shetty as the King’s wife.

What is story of Kantara?

Kantara movie starts with a king in 1897. The king had everything except peace and happiness, then he left his mansion to find his peace and happiness but he couldn’t find it so, he left for the forest where he found Panjuri Daiva/ Bhoota Kola, a rock in which an animist form of spirit lived and worshipped by the local peoples of Udupi/ Mangalore region.

The king agrees with Panjuri to trade the forest land to the local tribes’ people in exchange for happiness and peace by Daiva. But Daiva warns the king that if he wants this land again from the tribal people, then the wrath of Guliga Daiva will incur to his family.

The story revolves around Shiva who is a Kambala athlete who challenges the forest officer Muralidhar, who wants the Forrest land to be untouched and unharmed.

Apart from them, there is much planning and plotting done by the king’s successors. The movie has many mysteries and holds you up till the end.

Rishab Shetty directed and written the film Kantara was released on 30th September 2022 with limited screens.

The movie has made with a budget of only Rs 20 crores. At the end of 18 day’s theatrical run, the movie Kantara managed to earn 121 crores net (all languages) or 142.78 crores in gross India. If we see the oversease data, Kantara movie has made 10.50 crores till now. And now stand in the grand total of 158.28 crores. Isn’t this phenomenal?

Still, the film is in theatres and running successfully houseful shows. The OTT rights of this film were sold to amazon prime video.
