Ponniyin Selvan: I is a 2022 Indian Tamil language epic period drama action film by the well-known director of our Indian industry named Mani Ratnam. The movie was also co-written by Mani Ratnam along with Elango Kumaravel and B. Jeyamohan, and produced by Subaskaran Allirajah and Ratnam under the banner of Madras Talkies and Lyca productions.

The film is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1995 novel of the same name. The film stars many big names like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Prakash Raj, and many more.

The film shows the Indian history about the Chola dynasty. Music in this film was composed by A.R. Rahman.

The story is set up on the 10th century, the Chola dynasty rules prosperously in South India.

The film shows the story of two princes. One was Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) and the second was Arulmozhi Varman a.k.a., Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi), both the princes was ruling their areas peacefully until the minister of Chola’s empire decided to go against the king of Chola (Prakash Raj) and both the princes. The ministers planned and plotted against their king but the prince of the Vaanar clan (Karthi), who is close to prince Aditha Karikalan reveals their truth in front of the king and his daughter (Trisha).

Parallelly, a group of Chola chieftains conspire together to usurp Aditha Karikalan from ascending to the throne and attempt to set up his uncle (Madurantakan) on the king’s throne. The film tries to show the true struggle to stay in power, everyone has their own motive. Race against the time, the Chola princes must win the battle against an advancing Rashtrakuta army and tackle the Pandya’s threat.
